A suspect has been arrested in Sweden in connection with the deaths of two British men found in a burnt-out car last month.
Prosecutors are holding the unnamed individual on suspicion of aiding and abetting murder, according to a statement.
The remains of Farooq Abdulrazak, 37, and Juan Cifuentes, 33, of north London, were found in the shell of a Toyota Rav 4 in Malmo on July 14. The pair had been reported missing after they failed to return home from a business trip to Sweden and Denmark. Swedish media said that at least one of the victims has been shot before the vehicle was set on fire.
Investigations continue in the UK and in Sweden, according to Swedish prosecutors, who believe Abdulrazak and Cifuentes rented the vehicle at an airport in Denmark hours before their bodies were discovered in the Fosie industrial area of Malmo.
In a statement, they said: “The prosecutor has today arrested a person on probable cause suspected of aiding and abetting the murder of two British citizens who were found dead in a burnt-out car in Malmo on July 14 this year. There will now be interrogations, both with the suspect and others.”
Magnus Pettersson, head of the preliminary investigation, said prosecutors had until Sunday to decide whether or not the suspect should remain in custody.

The families of the two dead men said they were “sincerely devastated” to lose “two beautiful, innocent, hardworking souls”. Their deaths had “impacted our local community deeply”, they added.
Laura Cifuentes, the sister of Juan, told The Times that her family were “grateful that some progress has been made”.A friend said the two Britons were “role models” in their communities. Abdulrazak had married in the past few months, while Cifuentes had a wife and two children, aged eight and three, according to the friend. They were business partners in what the friend described as “their dream job”, reported to be a travel company, Empire Holidays.
Abdulrazak’s family described him as “a beautiful, selfless, humble soul” and “a huge pillar in our family and community”.
Cifuentes was “a pillar of strength and compassion”, his family said, adding: “His legacy lives on in his children, who embody the love and values he instilled in them.”
